AMID WORLD MISSION is an association of missionary bases working worldwide. A “Missionary Base” is a place where AMID is legally registered. It is also where all ministry activities happen.
Local missionary bases can develop ministries according to members’ abilities and contextual needs. Each base is led by a local director and overseen by a regional or national leader.

Pr. João Carlos N. Rocha, PhD
Founding President
Dr. João Carlos is a dynamic leader, visionary pastor, educator, church planter, and missionary deeply committed to making a transformative impact. With a Bachelor’s degree in Theology centered on pastoral counseling, a Master’s in Transcultural Communication from Columbia International University, and a PhD in Education from Trinity International University, he possesses the expertise needed to lead with purpose. As the founding president of AMID World Mission, he fervently champions initiatives that uplift and transform communities. Moreover, he serves as the director of the Amid Churches Network and as the Senior Pastor of ICC Atlanta Church in Atlanta, Georgia, inspiring congregations to deepen their faith and commitment to service.
OUR STORY
1981
In 1981, AMID World Mission was established in Guarapuava, Brazil, under the name Missão e Discipulado, to train future church planters. The three-year program successfully prepared many workers who went on to plant dozens of churches across Brazil. Simultaneously, Missão e Discipulado initiated efforts to establish new churches in towns with minimal Evangelical presence.
1987
In 1987, a vital transformation occurred when the headquarters of Missão e Discipulado was moved to Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. This pivotal change led to the institution’s rebranding as AMID. The Mission and Discipleship training school evolved into a distinguished theological seminary known as SEAMID, now offering students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree. This shift not only enhanced the educational offerings but also solidified a commitment to fostering spiritual leaders for the future.
1988
In 1988, AMID Community Church was established as part of the work now known as ICC Foz. At that time, the missionary efforts expanded into Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. As AMID grew beyond Brazil’s borders, its name was changed to AMID World Mission, which it is known as today.
2000
From the early 1990s to the 2000s, AMID played a key role in mission projects across various nations. Since 2000, AMID has relocated its global headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In addition to managing AMID’s international efforts, the global headquarters also oversees AMID Learning, the mission’s online educational platform.
Today
Today, after 40 years, AMID World Mission is active in many different nations. Our core mission of training leaders and planting churches continues to thrive. SEAMID has become a fully recognized institution, offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in theology and missiology in Cascavel, Brazil. Additionally, AMID promotes social justice through education and healthcare projects in developing countries, engaging in outreach efforts and building local churches around the world
